Hovering modestly between the green beer of St. Patrick's day and the chocolate candy eggs of Easter is one of Oscar's very favorite days of the year... since he's a dog, he partakes in neither green beer nor chocolate candy eggs, but on March 27th, the beast is treated to a feast - one reserved for this very special day... it's Oscar-dog's birthday. I am late with this post, but rest assured - the 27th was no ordinary day.
Not a terribly self-aware creature, Oscar could care less about the significance of birthdays, and age - he's in it for the meatloaf cake and occassional ice cream - but nostalgic (and crazy) as this girl is, I can't let the day pass without a party (surely it's as much for my benefit as it is for him)... Just shy of 7 years ago my life changed when this burly red pup crashed into it. In truth, I didn't reeeeally want a puppy - what I wanted was a DOG: calm and stoic and strong. I signed up for the tiresome job of raising a pup, with hopes that one day he'd grow out of his unfathomable propensity for mischeif, and into his great boxing-glove paws - and at this point, I am so very pleased to say, I finally have every bit the DOG I wanted - and he's taught me 100x what I expected to learn. You were more than worth the wait, my boy. Happy (belated) Birthday.
